International Plastics News for Asia

NPE 2012 with 1,830 exhibitors outpaces previous editions!

I received an update on the upcoming NPE2012 in Orlando, Florida. With a few weeks left before the show starts, this year's NPE edition is expected to be huge -- bigger and better than its previous editions. According to SPI: The Plastics Industry Trade Association, which produces the triennial trade show, 1,830 companies have purchased 903,000 sq.ft. (83,890 sq.m) of exhibit space at NPE2012. Commitments by more companies can be expected between now and opening day, according to Gene Sanders, SPI's senior vice president of trade shows and conferences. The exhibit space total thus far is one-fifth greater than the amount actually occupied at NPE2009, which suffered dropouts and space cutbacks by exhibitors as a consequence of the Great Recession.

Visitors continue to register at a rapid pace over the coming weeks, outpacing those recorded during NPE2009 and NPE2006. Total registration for NPE2012 will exceed 50,000 - or 16% more than in 2009 - and could approach 60,000, according to Sanders.

Given the importance of this show as a platform to launch new technologies and processes, and high-tech materials as well, we have posted online at www.industrysourcing.com a preview report plus the products that exhibitors will present at the show.

As seen in the past, Asian companies will be well-represented with big industry players in China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Japan and other parts of Asia presenting their products. The huge number of Asian companies reflect the tremendous growth in the region's plastics and rubber industry and how companies have innovated to become competitive in the global market.
