International Plastics News for Asia

Outlook 2015: Middle East and Africa

Every year, the International Plastics News - Middle East and Africa gathers the insights of experts in the plastics and rubber industry on what they believe would be the trends in 2015 and beyond. The interviewees are usually from various sectors or segments within the plastics and rubber industry - from the technology and machinery sector; from raw materials and compounds; from finished products or emerging applications.

For the Outlook 2015 Special Report covering the Middle East and African regions, we were able to interview these industry insiders: Mr. Aparajith Balan from Frost & Sullivan;  Dr. Abdulwahab Al-Sadoun, Secretary General of GPCA;  Mr. Karl Zimmermann from Brückner Maschinenbau GmbH & Co. KG; Dr. Hans Ulrich Golz from KraussMaffei Technologies GmbH; Mr. Nicholas Beck from Beck Automation; Mr. Milan Vignjevic from LANXESS; Mr. Karl Schäuble from ILLIG Maschinenbau GmbH & Co. KG; Mr. Edi Degasperi from Radici Plastics (Suzhou) Co., Ltd.; Mr. Mohammad Nofal from Duplas Al Sharq LLC; Mr. Sascha Gaede from SOLON International LL FZE; and Shakul Rai of Excel International FZ-LLC.

What these industry experts talked about makes an interesting reading and can serve as guide for any company doing business in these two regions. There is no doubt that the Middle East has seen dramatic growth owing to the developments in the petrochemicals and chemicals industry. With capacity projected to reach 191.2 million tons by 2020, up by 50% from 2012 capacity, the GCC has come a long way off to manifest and position itself as a leading source of plastics serving the global market.

Africa, despite the diversity, is now getting much attention due to the fact that the continent's rapidly growing population poses high demand for plastic products. As result, many foreign investors are keen on setting up their operations in Africa.
