The ASEAN region has been a major contributor to global economic
performance. The Asian Development Bank
(ADB) expects Southeast Asian countries to grow by 4.6% this year with
Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Philippines and Vietnam posting high
growth rates. Another impetus for growth is the establishment of the ASEAN
Economic Community (AEC) which creates a single market of over 600 million
people and a production base with free flow of goods, services, labor, investments
and capital across the region.
The ASEAN plastics industry offers vast opportunities for many businesses.
With technologies and production processes becoming more sophisticated and raw
materials taking on more advanced features, ASEAN plastics manufacturers have
been welcoming the latest products available from industry innovators. Against
this backdrop, Ringier Events, a division of Ringier Trade Media Ltd., launches
the “Asia Plastics
Processing Technology and Innovative Materials Summit 2017” in Jakarta,
Indonesia on September 6-7. The two-day Summit is packed with
highly informative presentations and discussions centered on innovative technologies
and high-performance materials as applied in fast-growing sectors such as
Packaging, Automotive and Consumer Electronics.
A Factory Tour is scheduled on the second day which will bring delegates
to Inter Aneka Lestari Kimia PT, well-known
manufacturer of ENVIPLAST®.
“This Summit is a
very important event that industry professionals should not miss as it gathers
industry experts from different countries in one venue where they can impart
valuable information necessary in improving production processes and
profitability. Similar to our highly successful seminars in China and recently
in Southeast Asia, Ringier Trade Media aims to encourage a fruitful exchange of
ideas among our delegates while also expanding their network,” according to Mike
Hay, President of Ringier Trade Media Ltd.
Indonesia has been chosen as it is the largest economy in ASEAN and also
has the biggest population of more than 250 million people, or about 42% of the
total population within the ASEAN market.
The Summit is supported by leading organizations such as Indonesian
Packaging Federation (IPF), Indonesia Plastic Recycling Association (AIDUPI), Plastindia
Foundation, and the Plastics Institute of Thailand (PITH).
Valuable insights from the experts
Three main sectors are currently posing high demand for innovative
high-performance materials and breakthrough processing technologies in the
ASEAN region. The packaging sector accounts for about half of the total plastic
consumption market in the region. ASEAN is one of the largest automotive
markets in the world, and major vehicle and automotive parts manufacturers have
chosen ASEAN countries as location for their production and assembly
facilities. Another important sector is consumer electronics, and sales of these
products have grown substantially in the past few years. The current shift
toward high-end consumer electronics, as well as the growing preference for
energy-efficient, environment-friendly gadgets encourage recent developments in
breakthrough technologies and materials solutions.
In the Summit, Mr. Henky Wibawa, Executive Director of Indonesian
Packaging Federation, Indonesia (IPF) will talk about the developments in film
extrusion and flexible packaging technology, while Mr. Nalin Amunugama, General
Manager at Boge Kompressoren Asia Pacific will discuss the next-generation PET
blow molding process. Mr. Dhiraj Sharda,
Marketing Head of Indorama Ventures PET Business Indonesia will talk about the
latest PET recycling technology.
In the area of innovative materials, Mr. Ian Toh, Commercial Director
for Asia Pacific at NatureWorks LLC will cover the role of bioplastics in the
new plastics economy, while Dr. Asmuwahyu Saptorahardjo, Technical Advisor at
PT Inter Aneka Lestari Kimia aims at presenting the trends in replacement of petroleum-based
packaging with starch-based biodegradable polymer.
Aside from materials development, the role of innovative technology will
further be strengthened with technical presentations from technology and equipment
manufacturers. Mr. Raimon TH Wong, Area
Sales Manager(Malaysia) of Next Generation Recyclingmachines GmbH will discuss
next-generation recycling; Mr. Kongsak Dokbua, Vice President of Plastics
Market Intelligent Department, Plastic Institute of Thailand will provide an
overview on plastics industry for future automotive requirements; Mr. Rajiv
Sanghavi, Co-Chairman, Publicity Committee at PLASTINDIA Foundation will
highlight the role of automation and robotics in plastics production; while Mr.
Javad Feizabadi, Assistant Professor of Malaysia Institute for Supply Chain
Innovation will offer his views on the supply chain design in the era of
industry 4.0.
Sponsored presentations will add value to the Summit. Featured
presentations from Chen Hsong Holdings Limited, Frigel Asia Pacific Ltd and
Plastindia Foundation will provide delegates with the chance to learn about
these companies’ products and services and how these can benefit their business
operations.
