International Plastics News for Asia

NPE 2012 opens this week, exceeds previous editions in size and scope

A new era in NPE history begins today as the giant NPE2012 international plastics exposition opens in the first new venue for NPE in 40 years, bringing an innovative agenda, an influx of new exhibitors and attendees, and an upsurge in size and dynamism, as announced by SPI: The Plastics Industry Trade Association.

For the organizers of this mega-event, moving from Chicago to Orlando was an important strategy of "breaking the mold" -- creating a bigger venue where exhibitors can demonstrate their technologies and visitors can get the most from their visit. As William R. (Bill) Carteaux, president and CEO of SPI, stressed, NPE 2012 is not only bigger in size but also better in terms of the many side events and highlights. Many special activities are also scheduled to welcome the guests and provide greater networking opportunities.

Just to give you an idea on the increase in equipment on display: 35 largest exhibitors at NPE2012 are averaging 20% more equipment than they did at NPE2009, as measured by the weight per square foot of exhibit space. Equipment total for the entire show will exceed the weight of two hundred Boeing 747 jetliners!

U.S. ambassador, Utah state governor, and presidential candidate Jon Huntsman, Jr. was invited to join the celebration of SPI’s 75th anniversary and for the induction of ten new living members of the Plastics Hall of Fame, and awards to industry leaders by the Society of Plastics Engineers (SPE).

True enough, NPE has been a bustling event where plastics and rubber processors are introduced to new processes and solutions, as well as improved raw materials. It gets better each edition, with a promise that the latest edition will become more diverse giving visitors a reason to return to the next edition.

This year, Asian exhibitors participate in full force as the big names in the region's plastics and rubber production bring their best products on exhibit.
